For the past thirty years, Foresters Camera Club has served area
photographers well. We originated as Court Harvey Camera Club,
affiliated with the fraternal organization called Independent Order of
Foresters. In 1977 the club went public. Our first meeting place was
the Community Center on Southwest Highway and 127th in Palos
Park. From 1989 to 1999, members met at the Palos Heights Recreation
Center, off 127th west of Ridgeland. Since 1999, we have
been meeting at the Palos United Methodist Church.
The goal of our club is the study and enjoyment of photography. Our 40
members consist of serious amateur as well as professional photographers. Many
travel world wide to photograph, while others take advantage of local
sites. We meet at 7:00 p.m. September through May on the first and
third Tuesday of the month. The first monthly meeting is a competition
night; the second is a program night. We also offer a variety of
outings. At the end of the season, we celebrate our successes with an
awards banquet.
With the digital revolution, prints have replaced slides, which once
were the favored media of club competitions. Today, prints dominate the
scene, and many members print their images at home. We
recently have purchased a digital projector, which has improved our
programs and enhanced the value of club membership. Next year for the
first time, our members will be able to submit digital images for
competition, in addition to color and monochrome prints." Times certainly
have changed.
Over the years, the club has won many awards at the Chicago Area Camera
Club Association (CACCA). We also belong to the Photographic Society of
America (PSA).
